The diversity of Southern China is quite remarkable – as is the beauty of the landscape, culture and people. From tribal villages to modern mega-cities, there’s a lot of everything along the way. I found the absence of ‘religion’ in many places to be quite striking – particularly in urban spaces. It seems that consumerism has replaced traditional values in some ways. Yet the history of the peoples here is long and wide with traditional healers, sooth sayers and witchdoctors holding sway in some quarters.
